Rending
Mulberry paper and wheat paste
82" x 40"
2016

When mourning for a loved one, it is Jewish custom to rend one's clothing -- to tear the clothing over one's heart as a public display of grief. Drawing from this visceral action of ripping open the fabric covering the heart, Rending is an attempt to chase that gesture. To freeze for a moment that tear, that rupture, that destruction.
